Once the question is popped and you’ve accepted – what happens??
You’ll need to choose a date and time, venue, and a Marriage Commissioner. Regardless of whether your wedding is small (elopement) or large someone will need to officiate.
By law you must have:
- a Marriage Licence
- two adult witnesses over the age of 18 they can both be of the same sex and/or related to you
- cannot be drunk or on drugs
When you call me for an “elopement” or small ceremony I need answers to the following questions: full legal name of the Bride and Groom, names you are called, do you have your Marriage Licence? 2 adult witnesses? May I introduce you as Mr & Mrs? do you have 2 rings? (one each) May I do the Palm Ceremony or the Rose Ceremony? how many people are attending?
When you call me for a large wedding I like to book a meeting asap to cover off the details of your ceremony. We cover off all the above questions and discuss how you can personalize your wedding. Go thru a “paper” rehearsal and start to develop “your ceremony”. The first meeting is usually an hour and then I like to get together again the week of your big day. At this time we get reacquainted and cover off final details.
